What makes a diagnosis go from a disorder to dysphoria?  Working with the transgender population can be confusing and challenging due to the systemic processes that pose potential difficulty in a client’s transition.  Many counselors admit that they lack knowledge and comfort when working with the transgender community-attending this presentation will help inform attendees on:
1.       The variety of definitions and terms that are essential in understanding the GID diagnosis;
2.       The timeline of gender transition and involvement of mental health professionals in the process;
3.       Personal biases that may impede one’s competency in transgender and gender-identify related therapy; and
4.       Local and national resources available to counselors and clients.
