Objectives:
MI is only effective and beneficial when there is contemplation about change; once ambivalence
is recognized, the model hones in on empowering the client to make decisions that are aligned
with improving quality of life. Through the seminar and engaging in experiential exercises,
trainees will learn to:
- Elicit behavior change by helping another person to explore and resolve ambivalence
- Establishing a helpful connection in which the client feels respected, open and heard
- Focus mostly on future possibilities related to a specific issue
- Evoke clients’ sense of importance and confidence about change while helping to resolve
lingering ambivalence
